Military Life
David enlisted in the military on May 26th, 1943, at the age of 23. He enlisted in Forrest, Tennessee, and his alpha designation is private. He became a soldier for the United States Army. His rank at the time of an Italian campaign was PFC or Private First Class. When he enlisted, his physical characteristics were as noted: An African American male with black hair and brown eyes that was about 5’11’’ tall and weighed about 170lbs. He was described as moderately muscular, and he was tall as well.
He served in the 371st Infantry Regiment, 92nd Infantry Division and situated in Company C. This regiment is known for being a "colored” regiment and one a few of its kind to serve during the war. In fact, this particular regiment served in both world wars. This Regiment was known to have valiant soldiers who fought ferociously during battle in hopes of better treatment for their people back home. The Double V, victory at home and victory at sea. In 1944, he and the division he was assigned to went to Camp Patric Henry, Virginia on the September 12th, 1944. They would later depart to Italy at the start of the Italian campaign, the allied invasion of the fascist controlled Europe from the south.

David served as an infantry soldier during a campaign by the allies to take capitulate fascist Italy. He and his regiment arrived and set up base in Livorno, Italy. They joined up with other Divisions along the Gothic Offensive line on October 11th, of 1944.
By late December, the 92nd Infantry Division occupied parts of the Serchio Valley. In May of 1945, a German offensive had taken place in which the division was pushed back and forced to retreat. In the ensuing battle that had happened, David was injured in the stomach and torso and would later die of his wounds at the base camp. He was Killed In Action.
